Cross browser issues[edit source]

I saw the comment Al made relating to this, and I've also had some issues with accessing it via iPhone. I have an idea, nut it has to wait for tomorrow my time. Nominally Humane! some time Wednesday, 12:06, Jan 5 2011 UTC

I could see the numbers didn't always do the same thing on Chrome as IE - which is why i substituted the word here - to try to get people not to use the phone. But if it's fixable... --Sog1970 14:54, January 5, 2011 (UTC)

I didn't even know the phone was pressable... any particular reason the 3 and the 4 don't have lighties? I'm on Opera, if it matters. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png Major Pleb Dame Lyrithya AthyriaIsarraHaydrahlienne - 'Destroyer of the Wiki' - MUN OUN CUN KUN DUN GUN *shifty eyes* (zombiebaron) • (dr. skullthumper) • (roman dog bird) • (nachlader) • (frosty) • (more zombiebaron) • (talk) • (stalk) • (block) • (log) • (list) • WotMUotMRotMPotMUGotM x4 • SotMFFSNOMMotMBFF x2 • GSA x2 • PSFiyCMDTop3 x3 • Top10VFH x15 • VFP x3.5 • HoSTAWHMCPEEINGPRSPCURCΥΣΣICZB -- 15:07, 5 January, 2011 (UTC)

It should have lights, but I tested ie and ff but neglected chrome and safari, so I little tweaking is required. Nominally Humane! some time Wednesday, 22:50, Jan 5 2011 UTC

Works perfectly on IE. If you do have time to doing whatever magic you do for other browsers, tell me and i'll revert the places where I've substituted the word "here" for numbers. You're just a mysterious litte magic man, aren't you. Or a big one, who knows. Only you. that's why you're mysterious--Sog1970 08:59, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

I would explain how big I am, but modesty forbids. I've worked out a few options, but I'm thinking of changing the phone graphic to something that looks like the iPhone screen - easier to code, allows me to do a little more wiki magic, and will be more obviously a part of the article. Unfortunately job hunting is a higher priority at the moment, but I'm not far from an improved interface. Nominally Humane! some time Thursday, 12:20, Jan 6 2011 UTC
Whatever and whenever you can. It's pretty fabulous already.--Sog1970 18:38, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
Although I really did like the fact that the phone was on Virgin mobile and had a pic of the Madonna.
So did I, and that wasn't by my design, but rather I went through the images of phones already uploaded and said that works. I have a couple of images that I've thrown together quickly, which I'm hoping to upload soonish. The truth is though that the way it currently works is less than the best, and I am a perfectionist in some aspects. (After all I just went back to a previous feature and made major changes to the back end simply because I realised it was less than perfect.) Nominally Humane! some time Friday, 10:39, Jan 7 2011 UTC
I hate Safari! Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 07:28, Jan 8 2011 UTC
Safari, so goody? Not going well, I assume.--Sog1970 10:58, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

Idea[edit source]

You people should put a "press here if you are orthodox" page too at the salvation category. Think about it and... bye. --~ Myg.png Myg2.png 14:50, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

You're right. I'll see what I can think of. --Sog1970 18:37, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

And one for protestants/lutherans as well. Änjelajs (talk) 17:41, March 29, 2012 (UTC)

De Roy[edit source]

I have no idea what this guy's edits were meant to add. but it all seems wrong now. --Sog1970 12:09, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

Also.... working really well on IE and Chrome. Shall I revert the heres and replace the numbers? It's much more fun when you get to use the keypad. --Sog1970 12:13, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

I know what he was attempting to do, but was using non W3C compliant CSS - not a huge issue if it still supported cross browser, but it meant that it would have given different results on different systems, and may have caused issues with wiki parsing. Safari for iPhone was still giving me issues, but I have tweaked the code on number 1 and that seems to have minimized the issue, even if it's not completely fixed. I'll do a bit more cross browser playing tomorrow but I think it's about as good as I'm going to get it at the present. One major advantage is that I have {{Goto}} and {{Get}} fairly flexible now as a result of all the experimentation, which means that games are going to become a lot less messy, and I've also created {{GetDig}} alongside this to work with Game:Aitd, and cleaned up Game:Abyss, and I've discovered that the limitations of {{CGI}} can be worked around to a large extent (was previously 2^31, roughly 2*10^9 but have extended to 10^12-1 permutations). It's looking good now until someone says otherwise, but let me finish playing and I can replace the heres later. (Definitely want to change that slightly hidden page back to be more hidden.) Also may at a little with content as well as framework, although I don't know that there is much I can add. I'd suggest we leave it as is in regards to the varying denominations now as well, or we'll be here forever. Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 13:09, Jan 8 2011 UTC

Damn, I must have accidently missed to re-add a large portion of the article while doing a quick mass-replacement in Notepad (for changing opacity values) and pasting the article code back afterwards - I didn't notice the decrease in article size until now. That part wasn't intentional, but I was trying to add rounded corners for the four corner buttons and opacity so the background could be seen through the buttons. The code is still there in the edit if someone else want to re-add it (without doing the accidental omission of course). Next time I'll remember to use the "Show changes" button before submitting. However, that newer CSS stuff is still incompatible to various degrees with some older browser versions and more obscure browsers though so there's always a risk. Ben DeRoy 13:11, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

Which is why I avoided it in the first place. Moz rounding is mozilla based, and opacity is very browser sensitive. I originally was going to use an image map for the links - hence the previous version of the image had the keypad as well - but decided against it as the functionality of the phone was more important than the prettiness. The hover highlight shows the user that the phone actually does something, but even that was debatable as to wether it was the best option, as that still plays up a bit on iPhone. Good coding, but I'm very aware that wikimedia, and older browsers, give us substantial limitations on CSS magic. Having said all that, it's good to see coding being used to pretty things up. Have a look at a few of these when you get the chance, as they could use a bit of a coding hand. Nominally Humane! some time Saturday, 14:29, Jan 8 2011 UTC
Okay, I understood none of that. I'll leave it to the two of you to decide what to do--Sog1970 16:37, January 8, 2011 (UTC)
What I said was Gobbledigook blah blah jargon blah blah I have a huge ego blah. However I'v now got this working on as many browser/platform combinations that I can, but optimized for PC with Firefox or IE. I'm now stopping. Pee review? Nominally Humane! some time Sunday, 07:05, Jan 9 2011 UTC
Then I'll undo the number thing and see if i can do anything about the crampness problem pointed out below. --Sog1970 15:57, January 9, 2011 (UTC)
I see the 'heres have already gone. --Sog1970 15:59, January 9, 2011 (UTC)

You know...[edit source]

This would probably look better if the body of text was lower and less crammed up against the phone. As it is, it's all... well, crammed up against the phone. I'd change it myself, but I'm not sure what's going on with some of this, or how intentional it is, or... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy.png 20:26, 8 January 2011
